Treatment of Autistic Children : Ivar Lovaas

15:01 Nov 14 2013
Times Read: 543

Hello Clinical Psych class,

As I mentioned in class, Dr. Ivar Lovaas pioneered the behavior modification of autistic symptoms in children. Lovaas passed away in 2010, but his program which began at UCLA in the 1960’s continues with much success at many other clinics and in home environments around the world.

Here is a link to a documentary called “Behavioral Treatment of Autistic Children: Ivar Lovaas (1988) in Historical Perspective Part III”. In viewing it, try to relate it to reinforcement theory and other behavioral principles covered in class and in your textbook.
